Headteacher’s Welcome
It is a genuine privilege to welcome you to Wellfield Academy and, as the school’s new Executive Headteacher from September 2026, to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a strong sense of community, warmth and ambition.
Although I am at the beginning of my own journey with Wellfield, what has struck me most strongly in my time here is the character of this school. Wellfield has a heart. It is a school where relationships matter, where children are known as individuals and where there is a genuine commitment from staff to do the very best for the young people and families we serve.
Our mantra is ‘Nothing but the Best’, and those words capture the ambition I have for every child who walks through our doors. I believe passionately that every young person, regardless of their starting point, background or individual needs, should attend a school that believes wholeheartedly in what they can achieve. Our responsibility is not simply to educate children, but to inspire them to believe in themselves, to broaden their horizons and to give them the knowledge, confidence and character to shape their own futures.
At Wellfield, we want every child to feel that they belong. We want them to be known, valued and cared for, but we also want them to be challenged. I firmly believe that the greatest expression of care we can show our students is to have the highest possible expectations of them. We will support them when they need us, celebrate what makes them unique and never stop encouraging them to become the very best version of themselves.
The Wellfield Standard sits at the heart of this. It represents our commitment to an inclusive, aspirational and community-centred school where high standards are pursued consistently and where every member of our community understands the important part they play.
It is also an incredibly exciting time to join the Wellfield family. Our school continues to grow, with significantly more families choosing Wellfield as their first-choice secondary school. Alongside this growth, the Department for Education’s School Rebuilding Programme is transforming our site and creating facilities that will match the ambition we have for our students and our community.
But buildings alone do not make a great school. Great schools are built by people. They are built through brilliant teachers, committed support staff, strong partnerships with parents and, most importantly, young people who feel proud of their school and ambitious for their futures.
As Executive Headteacher, I want Wellfield to be a school that is unapologetically ambitious for every single child. A school where excellent teaching is the norm, where behaviour and attitudes allow everyone to thrive, where inclusion is something we live rather than simply talk about, and where children leave us believing there is no ceiling on what they can achieve.
We are proud to be part of Endeavour Learning Trust and equally proud of our place at the heart of the Leyland community. I want our families to feel that Wellfield is their school: a school that listens, communicates and works in genuine partnership with them. I know that the strongest schools are those where students, staff, parents and the wider community work together around a shared ambition for their children.
There is already so much to be proud of at Wellfield, but there is also enormous potential for what comes next. I am tremendously excited about the journey ahead and about working alongside our students, staff, families and community to ensure that Wellfield continues to grow and thrive.
A website can only ever tell you so much about a school. The best way to understand Wellfield is to come and experience it for yourself: to meet our students, speak to our staff and experience the warmth and character of our community.
